Artists were invited to interpret TAROT cards for the event of card reading telling the fortune for Britain in the times of BREXIT with intention to unite divisive political opinions through art, humor and discussions.
As major political events, possibly of our life times, I felt it could have not been ignored in creative expression for local Manchester artists. I put out a call for artists to interpret a Tarot card of their choice not limiting the medium: it could have been anything from painting, written text, performances, music to improvisation on the night of the card reading. On the 29th of March when the first attempt to BREXIT was originally planned we all got together to see ‘what is on the cards’ for us here in local community in Manchester. I organised this event with a hope to provide a space and time where artists, their friends and family can come together express their thoughts and feelings in a no ordinary way and not to be judged by their political views.
I organised the event itself: provided the venue, drinks and food, also curated artists’ submissions, looking after a running order of the performances. In addiction I also interpreted couple of the TAROT cards:
The Fool. The Eastern European worker.
I tried to portray my personal feeling of disappointment in current negative rhetoric about eastern Europeans in media, because I am one, expressing it though costume and poem.
The Empress. The Myth of EU. Created a life size puppet in a close resemblance to a sex doll, pregnant with 12 European stars. Separation of a start belonging to England from an umbilical cord was performed on the event.
